Rapid Switching Between Twitter Accounts

A lot of people have multiple Twitter accounts out there. Mostly noble albeit some nefarious reasons why!

A common use case is that your responsible for a business or professional Twitter account as well as your personal one.

If you’re like me, you’ve probably been signing in and account of such accounts on a regular basis (or using a tool such as Tweetdeck).

With the advent of multi-factor authentication (p.s. you should really activate this if you haven’t done so already), signing in and out of multiple accounts multiple times a day can be a real PITA!

Don’t fear, Twitter have added an account switching feature which means you can seamlessly switch between up to 5 accounts.

I discovered this when I went to log out from Twitter today:

If you haven’t got multiple accounts linked already – and I’m guessing if you’re reading this you possibly don’t – they’ll be a message displayed along the lines of ‘Don’t worry, you don’t have to logout to use another account, just go to account info and switch accounts from there’.

First though – ‘what is account info?!’ Unfortunately, the message displayed doesn’t include a link (NB: Twitter, you really should include a link – at least to some instructions with screenshots here! Oh well, nevermind, I’m doing it for you – just link here instead 🙂 ).

When they say this, what they mean is. From the main Twitter home screen, click ‘More’:

The on the resulting menu, click the blue ‘+’ button at the top (or three dots if you’ve already got an account linked):

From there, you’ll be given the option to ‘Add Existing Account’ – click that:

You’ll then be prompted to enter your username and password for you other account:

Follow this process up to five times to add all your accounts. Then, whenever you want to switch, press the avatar at the top of the ‘More’ menu for the account that you want to switch to.
