Fixing a Frozen Sky Box

Sky

OK – a nightmare scenario. You’re just about to sit down and watch a film, the latest episode of Love Island or the footy and your Sky HD or Sky Q box decides that it’s going to have a funny turn. Here are a few steps that you can try to resolve the situation.

The first steps are the ones with the highest probability of fixing your issue, so go from top to bottom.

Switch it off and on

It’s the age-old tech advice, but it’s that for a reason. This sorts out a myriad of technical woes with all sorts of equipment.

  1. Turn off the Sky box at the mains
  2. Leave unplugged for 15 seconds
  3. Plug your Sky box back in
  4. Wait a couple of minutes for it to boot back up.
  5. Press the ‘Sky’ button on your remote control.
  6. Re-try what you were previously doing.

Hopefully all is well again.

Switch it off and on again but…

This time, including anything connected to your Sky box – including your TV, router and any other devices connected to your Sky Box.

Follow the ‘switch it off and on’ instructions above but include all your devices rather than just your box.

Soft Reset

There’s a hard option, but that’s going to can your recordings – and that’s not likely to be a popular thing with most people. But you can try a soft reset, as detailed in our other post regarding solving no signal issues with a Sky box.
